Neo pentyl glycol (NPG) is produced with formaldehyde and isobutyraldehyde in an aldol reaction. The intermediate obtained is converted to NPG with catalytic hydrogenation of the aldehyde group to the neo pentyl glycol.
Uses
Neo pentyl glycol (NPG) is used in production of polyester resins for coatings, Gel coats (top coat of composite), coil coatings, synthetic lubricants, plasticizers, adhesives.
