Flame Retardants Flame retardants corresponds to several substances which are added to combustible materials to prevent fires from starting or to slow the spread of fire and provide additional escape time. Among them, there exist TCPP and TEP. TCPP (CAS : 13674-87-8) TCPP Chemical Structure Composition. Tris (1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate is an PU foam’s additive used […]

Fumed Silica is a form of silicon dioxide, or silicon with molecular formula SiO2 and a molecular weight of 60.0843 g/mol. Fumed silica is also known as pyrogenic silica
It is a white powder odourless consisting of droplets of fused silica cooled by forming three-dimensional chains which are organized into particles of amorphous matter of very low apparent density and very high specific surface area. Fumed silica is insoluble in water.
Fumed silica is obtain from silicon sand. Product is reduced with carbon and then reacted with chlorine to obtain Silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4).
Finally Silicon tetrachloride is pyrolyzed in a 3000°C electric arc.
SiCl4 + 2H2 + O2 à SiO2 + 4 HCl
Finally, silica droplets obtained, bind to each other by forming chains, then a three-dimensional network branched by cooling.
Features & Benefits:
- Anti-settling, thickening and sag resistance
- Free-flow and anti-caking
- Scratch resistance
- Abrasion resistance
- Corrosion resistance
- light-diffusing properties
- Enhanced adsorbency
Fumed silica is mainly used in coatings, paints, adhesives, sealants, Agriculture and lawn care, composites, food additives, pharmaceuticals, printing, packaging, gel-cell batteries, cosmetics, toothpaste, …
Fumed silica is available in 10kg craft bag.
