Junior R&D Scientist/Engineer
Position Summary:
This role is focused on new product development for the Coating Business. This person will report
directly to the R&D Leader and will be located at Bluechem Lab and at our Corporate Headquarters in
Antwerp.
Education:
The ideal candidate will have a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Coatings,
or Polymer Science and some experience, including internship.
This position is also open to 2020 just graduated chemists.
Required skills:
Experience in polymer synthesis, processes and characterization (GPC, NMR, rheology, IR, KF)
Experience in coatings formulation, water based and solvent based
Physical property testing experience
Experience in Design of experiment
Excellent presentation skills
Strong problem-solving ability
Experience using statistical methods
Experience in Project Management
Flexible, high energy level, disciplined, high initiative
Conduct tests and monitor the performance of processes throughout laboratory
Job Duties:
Develop proprietary technology into commercial products
Develop applications for new and existing product combination
Create new technologies leading to new product opportunities
Recommend topics for research and development projects
Use computer models to work out the safest and most cost-effective production methods
Present project status reports to management
Assist customers with product-related questions and participate in plant trials
Plan how to move lab tests into a pilot production phase
Support customers facilities with new product, product specifications and quality evaluations,
as well as cost reduction projects
Stay current with applicable laws and regulations to ensure continuous compliance; develop
safety and operational protocols for manufacturing processes
Work independently and in a cross-functional team environment
Develop methods to deal with by-products, off- spec and waste materials in
environmentally-friendly way.
Language : NL, EN, DE & FR is a plus
Travel: Limited travel required to support ongoing project work or to provide customer support.
Location: Bluechem lab, Antwerp, Arpadis Benelux office.
